NY Comic Con Thoughts Part 2

Verse two, coming with that Olde E brew err.. I meant Comic Con part 2 with a bit more of the toys on display, from the awesome threeA figures, Square Enix Batman, Bandai's incredibly extensive Gundam (not Gangnam) line to a ridiculously cool custom Galactus figure/statue someone made in Artist Alley. There are quite a few more shots to share (40+) on here and will be posted in-between the music and art, I don't want to take over the site with these shots but still show you the pure awesome of what is Comic Con for those that didn't go. I hope that with these shots you get that itch to go and get your pass for next years convention!

NY Comic Con Thoughts Part 1

The Con is over and another glorious geekfest is done, it was sure tiring but as always a ton of fun. Comics, cosplay and enough toys to deplete your funds in a day doesn't sounds bad eh? I'm sure many folks went home happy as hell with their bags of awesome exclusives, nostalgia triggered purchases and new artists they became fans of. I managed to find a new book to read and got Lil Giant into G-Man as well, I didn't buy any new figures cause... well I got no more room left for figures right now haha. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as we had fun taking them and being a part of NYCC once again was fantastic. We have a good amount of photos so I'll be breaking this up into a few posts so one post doesn't weigh as much as the Power Pachyderms. They will be varied and jumbled up just like the floor in the Con. For those that have never been to one, I strongly urge you to go if you love comics, figures, art and geek culture as a whole. It's a little crowded but worth every half step you take in 5 minutes haha.

Scott Snyder's Batman Has Mighty Wings

Let's talk Bat for a second. After I found out that DC Comics was going to do a full universe reboot (New 52) I had my doubts and worries about my favorite superhero turning into guano, I was right about some of the other reboots but now my worries for Batman have turned into pure geek joy due to Scott Snyder. I'm coming back from a huge hiatus from reading comics (10 or so years) so it was perfect to start reading again with the New 52 coming out, I picked up Batman, Justice League and along the way Animal Man and a few other books. The arc of the Court of Owls in Batman has been a fantastic romp thru the psychological plane of Bruce Wayne and breathes glistening musky damp life into Gotham City and I am loving it. I will try to write without ruining integral parts of the story for those that haven't read it. Snyder has created Gotham in a breathable real history rich city monster by introducing families and old ties that will surprise and amaze you.

The first 10 issues are out now and the Court of Owls story has me always waiting for the next issue like old times, impatient because I want to keep reading but have to wait a week and wondering where it will go or who will pop up next. The mental work that Batman is currently working out is a huge one and has brought much discouragement to the hero, but he loves her and will keep fighting for Gotham as long as he's breathing. The whole Court of Owls timeline engaging in deep history is a very interesting one and how Snyder wrote it out can add a huge backlog of history and happenings that may surface in the near future. The Wayne family in my personal opinion has never been portrayed with the detail and richness in complexity on another Batman book, it makes you wonder about the entire origin of the Wayne's and Batman. Gotham City still feels dark and rightfully so with the seedy backbone protruding the urban landscape, but it also feels real in the way that there are people in power and past events bought to life, also the immense threat to the whole city including Bruce Wayne and even villains plays out like an awesome psychological thriller movie.

I hope and pray that this story goes beyond just an arc and spans the entire series, it's too deep in character and power figures to just drop after a while and seems to have a great deal of input in how the city works. I also read the side issues in the arc on the other Bat family books just for the complete grasp on the Owls story, it was good fun and made me also appreciate Batwing a little more than I used to. I have recently started to get excited about the upcoming Dark Knight Rises, I do however wish it was this story being played out in theaters this summer. Does it have the usual cheesy DC Comics feel to it? I honestly don't think so. All I see and read here is an amazing book that I always look forward to and have dropped most of the other comics I was reading in the process.

If you haven't read... read it. If you're worried about the cornball antics that DC usual has in their titles even within the New 52... don't, you're safe here. Go get the Volume 1 (Issues 1-7) out now if you don't want to buy the individual comics, I highly recommend it. By the way GetGlue, update your searchable and shareable titles so I can add this to my read list and get STICKERS! Scott Snyder... Salute!

Batman are ya done yet?

WGM: New York Comic Con Part 3

We got some greats popping up on Part 3 of our NY Comic Con figure coverage, Spiderman, Superman, Spawn and The Ghostbusters along with The Flash Gundam and a Giant Ugly Doll. Not sure what's going on with that Flash (I Don't follow it) but it's looking kinda funky there, I kinda like it but that MPH looking emblem is def weird. Superman is doning his 'New 52' costume and I'm digging it some, the cape coming out of the outfit is way better and I don't mind the V-shaped wrists as much as I thought, although he does look slightly more asian (Oh Jim Lee...) than what we are all used to. The Gundam figures are looking sharp as hell and make me want to buy them then stack 'em up in this assembly-looking lineup. Spawn is looking awesome in that figure with his iconic cape craziness, and they got Spiderman chilling as usual while the minis battle Venom and Lizard. A childhood favorite of mines stay relevant somehow in this digital age, The Ghostbusters have what it takes to move from one generation to another as proven with the release of these figures in 2011, oh yeah VIGOOOOO the Carpathian!

WGM: New York Comic Con Part 2

Round 2 is up and while short and sweet, you will recognize all these characters as they are giants in their world. From Street Fighter, Metal Gear Solid's Snake and the X-Men universe to even Darth himself, the toy companies are presenting a strong and fantastic lineup this year. It also seems that they are starting to take the right steps towards presentation when it comes to creating scenes and engaging the product in their enviornment (theonecam way) so pat on the back for that, I was tired of looking at the cold poses and gradient or white backgrounds. Also Transformers as usual make their appearance with Bumblebee opening it's hood for all and the new toon'formers(kinda meh) Prime standing tall. Enjoy! By the way see that NYCC exclusive green/red Hulk? Yeah we got em hehe.
